Artist Alumnus Cesar Kuriyama at Digital Arts Lecture Series

Digital Arts alumnus Cesar Kuriyama (B.F.A. '04) is a director, producer, and animator who has worked for clients such as Hershey's, BMW, Verizon, Gillette, and the National Football League. Kuriyama, who recently spoke at TED2012's Full Spectrum conference, is currently working on a project where he selects one second of video from every day of his life, and edits them together into a montage that both records his life and forces him to revaluate how he approaches each day.

The Department of Digital Arts Lecture Series is a seasonal series organized by the Department of Digital Arts in the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute. The series features critics, artists, and curators of digital art. The guests include both emerging talent and established pioneers in the fields of digital animation, motion arts, interactive artwork, and digital imaging.

"Glass, Light, and Public Space" Panel Discussion

Amiram Biton, Liquid, hand-blown glass, 19.5 x 3 x 8 inches, 2010 Pratt Manhattan Gallery will present a panel discussion titled, "Glass, Light, and Public Space," in conjunction with the current Pratt Manhattan Gallery exhibition "Bright Future: New Designs in Glass." The panel, featuring "Bright Future" guest-curator Sarah Archer, chief curator at the Philadelphia Art Alliance; architect James Carpenter; fine artist Bruce Munro; and glass artist and Pratt alumnus Tom Patti will discuss the continued vitality and versatility of glass as a medium in technology, design, and architecture. William Menking, a Pratt architecture professor and founder of The Architect's Newspaper, will moderate the panel.

Artist Erik Benson at VISITING ARTISTS LECTURE SERIES

Erik Benson, Overgrowth (Black Flowers), acrylic on canvas, 60" x 80", 2011Erik Benson's paintings are informed by fragments of urban landscape and culture that are found in the everyday. Now represented by Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art in New York, he was recently awarded the 2011 Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts Fellowship Award and a residency at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.

The Pratt Visiting Artists Lecture Series is an annual series organized by the Department of Fine Arts to welcome nationally and internationally recognized fine artists to share their experiences with the Pratt community.

Reading by Kurt Andersen

Pratt Institute’s Writers’ Forum will host the Annual Michael Mahoney Memorial Reading, given by Kurt Andersen. The event honors the memory of writing major Michael M. Mahoney, a gifted student who died in summer 2003. 

Kurt Andersen is the author of two novels, the critically acclaimed bestsellers Heyday (Random House, 2007) and Turn of the Century (Delta, 2000) as well as two non-fiction books Reset (Random House, 2009) and The Real Thing (Bison Books, 2008). Random House will publish his next novel, Trust Me, this summer. Andersen writes short fiction, screenplays, TV pilots, and work for the theater as well as books, and is currently creative consultant to the forthcoming Broadway musical about escape artist Harry Houdini starring Hugh Jackman. His Peabody Award-winning public radio program Studio 360, which he hosts and co-created, is broadcast on more than 160 stations.

2012 Pratt Fashion Show + Cocktail Benefit

Pratt Institute's graduating seniors in fashion design will present stunning, original looks for women and men at the 2012 Pratt Institute Fashion Show. 

Fern Mallis, creator of New York Fashion Week, former executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and former senior vice president of IMG Fashion, will be honored with the Pratt Institute Fashion Industry Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be presented by designer Calvin Klein.

The show will be followed by a cocktail benefit in honor of Mallis. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit student scholarships and Pratt Institute's Department of Fashion Design.
