Leaders in the Art World Explore Life of Pi

On Tuesday, October 29, Life of Pi artist Alexis Rockman, associate producer Jean-Christophe Castelli, and Brett Littman, executive director at The Drawing Center, will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Leighton Pierce, Acting Dean, School of Art & Design, on the artwork created for the film Life of Pi, which The New York Times called “one of the greatest achievements in digital cinema.” This fall Rockman has two concurrent exhibitions at The Drawing Center and Sperone Westwater gallery that showcase the work adapted for Life of Pi. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Digital Arts, Fine Arts, and Film/Video Departments. This event is free and open to the public.

Roundtable Discussion: The Body Revealed

Orshi Drozdik, Brains On High HeelsOn October 29, a round table discussion titled The Body Revealed will be presented in conjunction with the exhibition SPLICE: At the Intersection of Art and Medicine. The discussion will focus on changing perceptions of the human body, how past and current social, economical, and technological developments influenced our perceptions of our bodies, our lives, and our imagination. The interdisciplinary panel discourse will be anchored in these questions and explorations, highlighting the essential interconnectedness of the diverse realms addressed by various contributors.

Panel participants include Perry Bard, Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Foundation Art; Erika Biddle-Stavrakos, media artist and member of the Autonomedia editorial collective; Nina Czegledy; artist; SPLICE project curator; Senior Fellow, KMDI University of Toronto; Lisa O’Sullivan, Director, Center for the History of Medicine and Public Health, The New York Academy of Medicine; and Kim Sawchuk, Professor, Department of Communication Studies, Concordia University, Montreal. This is event is free and open to the public.

Marfa Dialogues On Environmental Justice and Rebuilding Post-Sandy


Pratt's Programs for Sustainable Planning & Development, the Center for Social Inclusion, and the Marfa Dialogues present Our Climate, Our City, Our Future: Hurricane Sandy One Year Later, a three day community conversation on environmental justice and rebuilding. Ron Shiffman, professor, Pratt Institute Graduate School of Architecture, and founder, Pratt Center for Community Development will speak at all three events on the Lower East Side, Brooklyn, and Queens.
