Bright Future: New Designs in Glass

Mesh Vases, Werner Aisslinger & CIAV MeisenthalThis exhibition of sculpture, tableware, and lighting designs by American and international artists and firms will explore issues of sustainability, the manipulation of light, and the contrast of ancient and modern influences in contemporary glass. The signature qualities of glass—its flexibility, clarity, complex cultural history, and ability to magnify and direct light—will all be at play in the works exhibited. The exhibition, which is guest curated by Sarah Archer, chief curator at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the development of studio art glass in America.

Artist Alex McLeod at Digital Arts Lecture Series

Alex McLeodInternationally acclaimed artist Alex McLeod constructs hyper-realistic 3-D environments filled with crystalline mountains, fiery lakes, and rotund clouds, all rendered in a sickly sweet candy-colored palette. Recalling the wide-open vistas of Romantic landscape painting while at the same time staging otherworldly dystopias, McLeod's CGI prints act as hybrid spaces that imply an almost infinite recombination of the past and present, the real and virtual.

The Department of Digital Arts Lecture Series is a seasonal series organized by the Department of Digital Arts in the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute. The series features critics, artists, and curators of digital art. The guests include both emerging talent and established pioneers in the fields of digital animation, motion arts, interactive artwork, and digital imaging. View the full line-up here!
